Ukrtelecom JSC was created at the end of 1993 (before January 5,
2000 it was called Ukrainian State Telecommunications Enterprise
"Ukrtelecom").
There are 30 branches in its structure, including 27 regional
directorates today. Ukrtelecom is the indisputable leader in the
field of the telecommunications in Ukraine by the scope and range
of telecommunication services.
Ukrtelecom owns transmission and switching networks. The Ukrtelecom
transmission network forms the basis of the Ukrainian telecommunication
infrastructure. It provides standard transmission links and circuits
organization.
Ukrtelecom provides all basic telecommunication services: international,
national long-distance and local telephone communications; wire
and wireless communications; broadcasting and television; data communications;
video-conferencing communications; satellite communications; ISDN;
Frame Relay; leasing of the digital links; Internet access services.
Ukrtelecom provides more than 8.8 mln. customers with local telephone
communication services, including 7.58 mln. subscribers in cities
and 1.25 mln. in the rural area. Telephone density (number of main
telephone lines per 100 inhabitants of Ukraine) is 20.6 numbers.
In Kyiv this index is equal to 45.3 telephone sets per 100 inhabitants.
Philanthropy of Ukrtelecom is a very important part of its activity.
For example, it gives a free phone line to the Stephania cafe.
